Dr. Katherine Wheeler is a Massachusetts native from Cambridge and a graduate of the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, where she earned the Academic Achievement Award and was inducted into Phi Zeta, the international veterinary honor society. She went on to complete a small animal rotating internship in community medicine at Angell Animal Medical Center and joined Back Bay Veterinary Clinic in 2018, where she now serves as Medical Director.

Dr. Wheeler is committed to providing progressive, compassionate care and to building strong client relationships rooted in the human-animal bond. Her professional interests include internal medicine, surgery, dentistry, ultrasonography, and geriatric care, including pain management. She especially enjoys helping patients and families work through complex medical concerns. She is USDA accredited, Fear Free certified, and was named Trupanion’s U.S. Northeast Veterinarian of the Year in 2025.

Outside of work, Dr. Wheeler enjoys spending time with her two young daughters, caring for her senior pets - Mouse, an affectionate 18-year-old Havana Brown cat, and Tuckerman, a spirited 13-year-old pit bull/shepherd mix - as well as cooking, gardening, running, reading, and traveling.
